วอล์คเกอร์ ตำรวจสายสืบที่กำลังเผชิญหน้ากับความบอบช้ำทางจิตใจยิ่งขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ ระหว่างที่ต่อสู้ฝ่าฟันกับโลกอาชญากรรมใต้ดินของเมืองใหญ่ที่แสนจะเละเทะ แต่เพียงไม่นานนัก เขาก็พบว่าตัวเขากำลังเป็นเป้าหมายล่าติดตามตัวของพวกคนชั่วแก๊งต่าง ๆ รวมทั้งเพื่อนตำรวจที่ไม่ไว้วางใจเขาด้วย และเพราะว่าต้องหาทางช่วยเหลือลูกชายนักการเมืองผู้ทรงอิทธิพลของเมือง ก็ทำให้เขาเข้าไปพัวพันกับการคอร์รัปชันและสมคบคิดมากมาย ไม่ต่างกับการประจัญหน้ากับปีศาจแห่งอดีต ( tidpaknews )

แกเร็ธ อีแวนส์ ก็คือผู้กำกับที่เคยแจ้งเกิดมาจากหนังแอคชันสุดระห่ำ The Raid ทั้ง 2 ภาค ที่กลายเป็นหนังบู๊นอกสายตาที่ประสบความสำเร็จเป็นอย่างดี และครั้งนี้เขาก็กลับมารับหน้าที่กำกับและเขียนบทหนังอีกเหมือนเคย พร้อมกับใส่ความดิบเถื่อนทางศาสตร์ศิลปะการต่อสู้ฝั่งเอเชียที่เขาหลงใหลเป็นอย่างดีในหนังเรื่องนีอีกครั้ง

ในแง่ขององค์ประกอบงานสร้าง แกเร็ธรู้ดีว่าแฟน ๆ หนังของเขาต้องการจะเห็นและอยากดูอะไร ทำให้เขาทำการเซอร์วิสออกมาได้อย่างถึงอารมณ์ นี่คือหนังที่อัดไปด้วยฉากบู๊และการสาดกระสุนในชนิดที่เกือบจะหมดคลังแสง สะท้อนผ่านงานภาพและจังหวะหนังในลักษณะที่เขาช่ำชองเป็นอย่างดี เป็นการออกลีลาบู๊ที่กระฉูดไปด้วยเลือด โหดสุดขั้นแบบไม่ปราณีกระดูกสันหลัง

แต่กระนั้นในส่วนของโครงสร้างบทหนังของ Havoc อาจจะค่อนข้างไปในทิศทางที่ชวนเบื่อหน่ายไปหน่อย ในหนังเต็มไปด้วยคาแรกเตอร์และตัวละครเยอะมากมาย ในลักษณะที่มากเกินจำเป็น จนแทบไม่มีพื้นที่ให้ได้ลงรายละเอียดให้กับพวกเขาเลย แม้ว่าแต่ตัวละครพระเอกที่ดูเหมือนจะเต็มไปด้วยมิติที่น่าค้นหา แต่บทหนังก็ละเมียดออกมาได้ยังไม่ค่อยถึงจุดที่ควรจะเป็น

จุดอ่อนที่สุดของ Havoc ก็คงจะเป็นพล็อตเรื่องที่พยายามจะแต่งเติมความเข้มข้นจัดจ้านในวงการอาชญากรรมใต้ดิน แต่พอเอาเข้าจริง ๆ กลายเป็นว่าทิศทางของบทหนังยังแข็งแกร่งไม่เพียงพอ แต่ก็ยังเต็มไปด้วยเสน่ห์ความเป็นเอเชียในแบบที่เขาถนัดมือกับการละเลงงานสร้างของเขาอยู่นั่นเอง

และนั่นก็พลอยทำให้ทีมนักแสดงที่ดึงมาใช้บริการในหนังเรื่องนี้ก็ค่อนข้างขาดมิติไปอย่างน่าเสียดาย บางคนเป็นถึงนักแสดงระดับรางวัลออสการ์ แต่ต้องมาอยู่ในหนังที่ไม่มีจังหวะได้ปล่อยพลังทางการแสดงได้เลย “ทอม ฮาร์ดี้” อาจจะเป็นคนที่ซีนเยอะที่สุดในหนังเรื่องนี้ แต่ทว่าบทหนังไม่ส่งเสริมคาแรกเตอร์ของเขาได้ดีนัก เขาจึงมาทำหน้าที่แค่ฟาดฟันและออกลีลาบู๊ในแบบที่เราประทับใจตามสูตร

บทบาทนี้ค่อนข้างโดดเด่นในเรื่องนี้กลายเป็น “เจสซี เมอิ ลี” กับบทตำรวจหญิงเชื้อสายเอเชีย ที่เสน่ห์ของเธอเอาได้อยู่หมัดกับบทบาทที่เธอได้รับ ถึงจะไม่ได้มีซีนเยอะ แต่ทุกซีนที่เห็นเธอออกมาก็ค่อนข้างชวนประทับใจ หนังยังมี “ฟอร์เรสต์ วิเธเกอร์” ดาราเจ้าของออสการ์ ที่เอาจริง ๆ ไม่ต้องเรียกตัวเขามารับบทนี้ก็ได้ เพราะเป็นบทที่แทบไม่มีตื้นลึกหนาบางอะไรเท่าไหร่ ร่วมด้วย “ทิโมธี โอลิมแพน”, “กอร์ดอน อเล็กซานเดอร์” และ “จอห์น คัมมินส์” ที่ร่วมสมทบ

ดังนั้นโดยภาพรวม Havoc ฝ่าหายนะครองเมือง ก็จัดว่าเป็นหนังแอคชันจากฝีมือผู้กำกับแกเร็ธที่หวนกลับมาเซอร์วิสแฟน ๆ ได้อย่างถึงอารมณ์ แม้ว่าในแง่ของบทหนังและพล็อตเรื่องจะไม่ได้เข้มข้น อีกทั้งยังเต็มไปด้วยรอยพรุนพอ ๆ กับกระสุนที่ใช้ไปตลอดทั้งเรื่องนี้ แต่ก็ยังเป็นหนังที่ตอบโจทย์คอหนังบู๊ได้อยู่ แม้ว่าสตอรี่จะยังค่อนข้างอ่อนปวกเปียกไปสักหน่อย

Movie review: “Havoc”, a thrilling action movie from the creator of The Raid

The return of the father of action films who created phenomenal success in the decade. He returns to work on a major action film in 10 years, “Gareth Evans” with “Havoc”, which is his return to work with Netflix again. Comes with a vision according to the course of a daring action film that is sure to impress his fans.

Walker, a detective, is increasingly traumatized as he battles the criminal underworld of a big city. But he soon finds himself being hunted by gangs and distrusted by fellow officers. In his quest to save the son of a powerful politician, he finds himself embroiled in a web of corruption and conspiracy, as well as facing off against the demons of his past.

Gareth Evans is the director who made his mark with the action-packed The Raid, both films which became successful underrated action movies. This time he returns to direct and write the film as usual, along with adding the brutality of Asian martial arts which he is very fond of in this film once again.

In terms of production elements, Gareth knows what his fans want to see and what they want to see, so he delivers an emotional service. This is a film packed with action scenes and gunfire that are almost completely empty, reflected in the visuals and cinematography that he is so good at. It’s a bloody, brutal, spine-tingling showdown.

However, Havoc’s script structure can be a bit boring. The film is filled with too many characters and characters, in an unnecessary way, with almost no space to give them any details. Even though the main character seems to be full of interesting dimensions, the script is not quite as refined as it should be.

Havoc’s weakest point would be the plot that tries to add intensity to the underworld crime, but when it comes down to it, the direction of the script is not strong enough, but it is still full of Asian charm that he is good at with his creations.

And that also makes the cast that was brought in to use in this movie lack depth, which is a shame. Some of them are Oscar-winning actors, but have to be in a movie that doesn’t have a chance to show off their acting skills. “Tom Hardy” might be the person with the most scenes in this movie, but the script doesn’t promote his character very well. So he only has to do the fighting and action scenes that we’re impressed with, according to the formula.

This role is quite prominent in this story, becoming “Jesse Mae Lee” with the role of an Asian female police officer, whose charm is captured by the role she received. Even though she doesn’t have many scenes, every scene where you see her appear is quite impressive. The film also has “Forrest Whitaker”, an Oscar-winning actor, who really didn’t need to be called in to take on this role because it’s a role with almost no depth, along with “Timothy Olympian”, “Gordon Alexander”, and “John Commins” who also join in the supporting cast.

So overall, Havoc is an action movie from director Gareth who has returned to service fans emotionally. Even though in terms of the script and plot, it is not intense and is full of holes as many as the bullets used throughout the story, it is still a movie that can satisfy action movie fans even though the story is still a bit weak.
